The French Revolution was a brutal and bloody time in which the King and Queen both lost their heads on the guillotine. It was a time of great bloodshed and Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI would both be condemned, and they had before their death sentence been subjected to tough imprisonments. The whole of the royal family was held inside of the Temple prison or the conciergerie, and the revolutionaries had specific ideas with that they would do to one child of the King and Queen. Louis Charles, the Duke of Normandy had an incredibly harrowing and tragic life, and he was the younger son of the King and Queen. His older brother was the dauphin, and following his death Louis Charles then became the new heir apparent to the throne, and he was given the title of Prince Royal. But following his father’s execution in the eyes of the royalists he would automatically succeed to the throne as the King of France, but France had been declared a republic. But this new king, Louis XVII as he was styled would never leave captivity. However one shocking part of the young boy remained on display for centuries, and only recently has been laid to rest, as his heart which had been removed was on display for thousands of people to see each year.
