We went to Madame Bidan’s winery for 15 liters of wine. It’s literally the vineyard Madame Bidan lives on and where she sells wine by the jugs everyday between 6pm and 7pm with her husband and son.
The “store” is a dark room with silos of wine in it. The seller is whoever comes out of the house that day (white-haired but sweetly smiling Madame Bidan, her properly French husband, or friendly son). The “check-out” is a small wooden table where the seller will hand-write a receipt and accept your euros after calculating how many liters you have.
By the way, the wine is 1.10 euro per liter!! We got 15 liters for 16.50 euros. Honestly, this place is my favorite place in France so far.
With our jugs of wine in the car, we head to Valence-a-Baise, but end up in Vic-Fezensac, never able to actually find the store we were going to! But it’s the journey that counts, not the destination, right? Well, what a journey it was as we got lost in the rolling hills of rural France.
