I visited the United Polaris Lounge in San Francisco – voted best business class lounge in the world – for the first time in my travel experiences! Took this opportunity as I was flying out of San Francisco back to Singapore on Singapore Airlines SQ31 –

Singapore Airlines counters open 3.5 hours before the flight and I was the first in the check-in queue. Our flight was scheduled to depart at 1130 hrs and the counters opened just after 0800hrs. Check in was smooth and thankfully the security clearance process wasn’t too bad. Once I cleared the security gates, a quick turn to the right and I was at the entrance to the United Polaris Lounge.

So I entered the United Polaris lounge quite early and it was already fairly busy. Well, to be accurate, the lounge was generally quiet except for the section where all the food was!

I headed straight to the dining area and was told that there was a wait for about 30 minutes. So I decided to wait and they gave me a buzzer as I did not have a US-mobile number (which they could text to). I then went around to check out the lounge. The lounge is quite large and most parts were pretty quiet, which was great if you needed a place to chill and work quietly.

Before the buzzer buzzed, I got a Mimosa plus some congee, which was great!

I was settled into the dining room and had a table to myself. A menu was given to me and given that this was breakfast hours, I could only order the items from breakfast. I decided to go with the french toast and breakfast sandwich, as well as a cocktail (which I can’t remember which one). Given how busy the dining room was, the food did take a while to come, which was ok for me as I had plenty of time.

When the food came, it was good!

After my lounge visit, I went out to the terminals to walk for a bit, before coming back to the United Polaris Lounge to take a look. It was even more crowded than before. Looks like United (and Star Alliance) are doing a roaring trade!
