As a teenager in 1944, Peter Feigl could see the French-Swiss border—a mere 100 yards away—from his spot in the woods. But he would have to get past armed guards, barking dogs, and two barbed wire fences before reaching safety in Switzerland.

Despite being baptized as Catholic, Peter had been on the run for years—first with his parents and then alone. He moved from one place to another, trying to stay one step ahead of the Nazis, often keeping his identity hidden.

Hear Holocaust survivor Peter Feigl’s experiences in his own words recorded on May 24, 2023. First Person is a monthly, hour-long discussion with a Holocaust survivor that is made possible through generous support from the Louis Franklin Smith Foundation.
