The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) held a webinar recently that included winemakers presenting one red and one white wine from Monticello (AVA) in the heart of Virginia, and the Virginia Wine Board discussing the state of the wine industry in that area. With 10 wine regions and 8 AVAs (American Viticultural Areas), there are over 300 wineries producing wines. This webinar focused on French grapes Petit Manseng, a dry white wine from winemaker Chris Ritzcovan at Jefferson Vineyards and a blend of Vinifera reds –Petit Verdot and Merlot from Emily Pelton, head winemaker at Veritas Vineyard and Winery.
