Le Brasserie was once the considered a premium Washington DC restaurant venue located near Capitol Hill and frequented by the wealthy and powerful. Besides the French cuisine, scandal periodically arose in the private secluded dining rooms. Senator Ted Kennedy and Senator Christopher Dodd became renowned for their drinking binges, young dates and questionable behavior. The pair reputedly invented the Waitress Sandwich that made the rounds of DC gossip.
Kennedy throughout his political career seemingly embraced scandal and bad boy behavior. Driving off a one-lane bridge on the island of Chappaquiddick intoxicated resulted in the death of a former staff secretary of his brother Robert’s. The scandal ultimately cost him the presidency. Afterwards there was plenty of bad behavior to taint his reputation, yet the defenders of the Kennedy name always managed to salvage him into respectability.
La Brasserie shuttered in August 2005 closeting a legacy of forgotten tales. Today it is simply an abandoned real estate site.
