France’s constitutional court has given the go-ahead to President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to increase the minimum pension age from 62 to 64.

The ruling was met with widespread opposition, with hundreds of protesters pouring out on to Paris’s streets to march against the bill. The bill was initially forced through parliament using a special mechanism. Sophie Binet, head of the CGT union, called for the protests to continue. ‘The message tonight is that the mobilisation continues,’ Binet said.
