Known for being super savvy and teaching others to cut their bills, Queenie Tan revealed she uses a ‘secret app’ to save money while dining out. The First Table app promises diners 50 percent off meals at restaurants they choose – trick is that they must order ‘first table’ of session. During dinner service for most restaurants, this means sitting down to eat until 530pm. Queenie said diners should read each restaurant’s terms and conditions before booking their table. “There’s one thing should tick off if you book – make sure read all the Terms and Conditions – some restaurants only have certain things half price,” he said. ‘The raw bar is not included in the 50% discount and you have to also order a drink .’ Queenie also revealed that the app charges $10 per booking that is not deducted from the bill. First Table was developed by Mat Weir, a tech entrepreneur who wanted to solve the problem of slow start of evenings in restaurants. Mat dined at a small French restaurant in Queenstown once and noticed that everything was half price to the “first table”. He went out with his partner Pablo to try the hack and it worked. The app charges use $10, which made Queenie nervous until she got the bill and saw the big discount. He asked staff how they were able to come up with such a great deal and they explained that it helped create a good atmosphere by attracting others to restaurant from start of service. He decided the idea was great then developed the app and included restaurants all over Australia New Zealand. Restaurants in the UK, Canada, Bali and Ireland also use the app. Queenie’s fans were stunned by this advice and thanked her for sharing it. Although some argue that $10 fee charged by the app means deal is “not worth it”. Dinner groups of two, three and four can reserve a table using the app.
