1) French of Cuskinny, co. Cork, Ireland – descended from Richard French (1615-1651) who has sons A) James French, wine merchant, Mayor of Cork in 1696, had issue including son Savage French (d. 1769), B) Bate French, merchant and Sheriff of Cork, and C) Matthew French, Justice of the Peace for Cork in 1697 – Vert three foxes. Crest—A dolphin. Motto—Veritas vincit.

2) Ermine a chevron sable. Crest—A dolphin embowed proper. Supporters—Dexter, an ancient Irish warrior habited, supporting with his dexter hand a battle axe head downwards, and bearing on his sinister arm a shield all proper; sinister, a female figure, vested and scarf flowing argent all proper. Motto—Malo mori quam foedari.

Baron De Freyne – Arthur French (1786-1856), Member of Parliament, raised to the peerage in 1839 as Baron de Freyne of Artagh, co. Roscommon, Ireland, and in 1851 was created Baron de Freyne of Coolavin, co. Sligo, he was the son of Arthur French (1764-1820) of Frenchpark, and grandson of Arthur French, Member of Parliament

Patrick Ffrench (d. 1744), descended from John Ffrench (1489-1545), Mayor of Galway, a son of Walter Freynsh who settled in Galway in 1473

Arthur French of Cloonyquin, son of Arthur French (c. 1650-1713) of Tyrone, Mayor of Galway, grandson of Christopher French, and great-grandson of Jeffrey French (d. 1619) of Mulpitt, co. Galway

3) Thornydykes, co. Berkwick and Frenchland, parish of Moffat, co. Dumfries, Scotland – descended from Robert French, the first Laird of Thornydykes, received a principal charter from the Earl of March, had son and heir Adam French – later on there was Adam French, eighth Laird of Thornydyke, who in 1555, was granted a charter by Queen Mary “of the lands of Thornydikes, with manor place, mills, etc., in Berwickshire, and of a tenandry of the land in the toun of Petcokkis, in the constabulary of Haddington” – Azure a chevron between three boars’ heads erased Or. Crest: A wolf passant.

4) Bailliestown, Scotland – William French (1732-1832) tobacco merchant active in the Chesapeake Bay, founding director of the Glasgow, provost of Glasgow, Magistrate, owner of the estate of Baillieston – Azure a chevron between two boars’ heads erased or, in chief, and a bezant in base. Crest—A ship in full sail proper. Motto—Par commerce.

3) Bellturbet, co. Cavan, Ireland, granted in 1682 – descended from Richard French (d. 1637), a merchant who lived at Belturbet, had son
Matthew French Sr. (1617-1691, merchant and High Sheriff of Cavan in 1677 – Per bend sinister engrailed or and sable a lion rampant between two fleurs-de-lis countercharged. Crest—A fleur-de-lis or, charged with a trefoil vert.

4) Pershore, co. Worcestershire – William French, son of Robert French, sold lands in Pershore in 1573, had brother Edward French – George French of Pershore was fined for refusing knighthood at the coronation of Charles I in 1626 – Per bend sinister engrailed or and sable a lion rampant counterchanged. Crest—A fleur-de-lis sable seeded Or.

5) French of Sharpham, parish of Ashbrington, co. Devonshire –
Robert French (fl. 1377-1386) of Totnes, a Member of Parliament , married the daughter and heiress of Robert Winard of Sharpham, in the following century it was owned by Robert French of Horneford – Sable a bend between two dolphins haurient, embowed argent.

6) French of Stream, Chiddingly, co. Sussex – John French (c. 1527-1588) of Streame House had son Stephen French (b. 1558) of the same location, the family were iron workers and had an iron smelting furnace at Chiddingly. – Gules a bend between two dolphins argent.

7) French of Cranfield, co. Essex – 100th of Dunmow – “hundred of Dunmow” – ??? – Azure a bend or, between two dolphins embowed argent. Crest—A crescent per pale argent and or, between the horns a fleur-de-lis counterchanged.
