In this sip-size event Anna will explore the regions, the grapes and the styles of wine produced celebrating one particular wine from three of the regions that she thinks our members should certainly try.
Jura is a treasure trove of wonders for the wine educated. Similarities in style to its neighbour, Burgundy, make it a great value alternative option for Crémant wines and Chardonnays, whilst unusual local grapes and the famed but small-scale production of vin jaune make it a fascinating and curious wine region.
The Savoie runs just south of Jura and is also marked by altitude and alpine white wines like its more northernly neighbour. Here, the exciting freshness is its USP and herbaceous, high acid wines delight.
The Roussillon region of France is a myriad of styles and prices with 24 permitted varieties across AOP and IGP certifications. And whilst it’s best known for overall affordability, there are pockets of famous fine wines worth celebrating too.
Although it’s one of the most famous regions in the world, the Rhône valley is peppered with lesser known and undervalued fringes that our buyer for the region, Marcel Orford-Williams, thinks deserve to be celebrated. Using popular grapes but with a local, regional twist, these are interesting wines to look out for.
