Not all good French wines are expensive, if you are looking for good quality reds, you should check out regions of Languedoc-Roussillon, South-west and Beaujolais. Best value for money whites are produce in Touraine (Loire Valley) and in Entre-Deux-Mers in Bordeaux region. The most planted grape varieties in France are Merlot and Ugni Blanc. The smallest wine region in France is Jura, famous for their yellow wine called Vin Juane. The first wine appellation in France was Arbois and was obtain in 1936. The smallest wine appellation in France is called La Romanee and is located in Burgundy.
