For Beaujolais day in 2022 Wine-Searcher’s Wine Director, David Allen Master of Wine, reviews a Cru Beaujolais from the village of Chiroubles. This is a lighter and more elegant style of Cru Beaujolais.
In 2014 Frederic & Chantal Lafarge established the tiny Domaine Lafarge Vial in Fleurie. Their vineyards spanning the communes of Fleurie & Chiroubles. Proprietors of a well-known and long established Volnay estate, Domaine Michel Lafarge, they wanted to establish their own enterprise distinct from their family property. Thus the domaine is named for them both as Vial is Chantal’s middle name.
Chantal & Frederic brought the biodynamic practices they employ in Burgundy with them to their new venture. The estate has prospered. They have quickly gained an enviable reputation and the small estate has now doubled in size to about 4 hectares.
