Wine-Searcher’s Wine Director, David Allen MW, tastes the 2016 vintage of Cru Bourgeois, Chateau Magnol from Bordeaux’s Haut Medoc region.
Château Magnol, in the Haut-Médoc, is the flagship estate of historic Bordeaux negociants Barton & Guestier. The property also serves as a corporate hospitality hub and a food and wine academy. The Chateau was built in 1842 as Chateau du Dehezs. In 1978 it was purchased by Barton & Guestier who combined it with other neighbouring vineyards and renamed it Chateau Magnol.
From 2016 Barton & Guestier have been certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environnemental Value), level 3. The highest level of environmental certification for agriculture. The certification enables them to attest that biodiversity components (hedges, grassy areas, trees, flowers, insects…) are numerous and that their practices respect the environment: air, soil, water, biodiversity, landscape, with a minimum impact on nature.
