Mas La Plana is a flagship wine of the Torres family, who were instrumental in putting the Penedes region in Spain on the wine world map.

Mas La Plana was first made in 1970 and came into world prominence when in 1979, it won the Gault and Millau Wine Olympics, placing first in the category of Cabernet Sauvignon blends. At that point Mas La Plana contained was a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Franc. But since 1978, Mas La Plana is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

I was so pleased to have the opportunity to drink the 1982 Mas La Plana. I found it on the Picasso Restaurant wine list in Las Vegas for a reasonable price of $225.

All of the grapes used in the wine come from the Mas La Plana vineyard. Then the wine is aged in 85% new oak.
