This week our journey took us from the Southwest of France across the Pyrenees to Spain. We spent a couple of days driving through the beautiful scenery in the Pyrenees on the Spanish side before we decided to visit Andorra on our way to the East coast area of France. We were hoping to spend a day or so there, but unfortunately it was really busy and we struggled to find a suitable approved place to park. Several motorhome parking areas were closed off and the remaining designated spaces we found were occupied by cars, despite signs clearly identifying them as only for motorhomes. It’s not the first time we’ve experienced this problem either, similar issue in Scotland around busy coastal areas. We tried several areas in Andorra before we gave up our search for a space.

Andorra is very beautiful, but not really designed for a lot of motorhome visitors. If you are planning on taking a large motorhome, it might be worth trying to book a campsite in advance. On the date we went, it wasn’t possible as they wanted a 4 day minimum booking. Cost of parking is pretty expensive too, to give a heads up £30-40 a night in approved spots if you can find a space!

The Pyrenees has some breath-taking views and driving! Especially in a motorhome! It does take quiet a while to get between places as the roads wind around the mountains, with plenty of hairpin bends zig-zagging your way up and down. Despite this most main roads are easily passable in a motorhome, providing the weather is good. Do bear in mind you will need winter tyres or to have chains/socks for all routes from November – new French rules, so do check the guidelines before you go.
