A van life couple have a flat battery on their first day in France. They travel in their van to visit the city of Auxerre and drink wine in Chablis. They try to park at a campsite but it is closed and end up wild camping by the river.
Van Life France is meant to be all croissants, coffee and chablis but we experienced something a bit different! Our first day in France saw us run into a van life problem that we just didn’t want to deal with!
However, we always like to try and see the funny side of life and after some help from our friends (thanks Gadget John and Alex Frood) we were back up and running and on our long drive south!
Despite the cloudiest weather we’ve ever seen in France we managed to get out and explore the gorgeous city of Auxerre! With its timber framed houses, gothic churches and meandering river, it is certainly somewhere we’ll be back to when the sun is shining!
Once we had our fill of exploring it was only fitting that we try the local wine and what better place to do that than the town of Chablis!
Courts managed to stay sober (just) for the wine tasting and we stocked up on two fantastic wines from La Chablisienne, that should keep us going for a week! From here we found an idillic park up on the river and spent the evening supping fine wine and gorging on French cheese, not a bad first day in France all things considered!
