There are few families synonymous and intertwined with the history of South African wine as the Malan family. What is particularly noteworthy is that Frans Malan produced the first bottle of what has become a celebrated Kaapse Vonkel 50 years ago, their superb Méthode Cap Classique made in the French classic bottle fermented style. Over time they have produced an enviable body of wines, which are steadily gaining a fine reputation. What is so special about the Malan family is that they are continuing a fine tradition. Third generation Michael Malan is responsible for the red wines while Charl Snyman looks after the Cap Classique and white wine production.
Among Frans Malan’s other firsts, he co-founded the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, which today represents over 300 wineries and has become a strong focus for Tourism in South Africa.
