This book brought back all of my memories from my time in Southern France. I was drooling over the description of the scenery, the food, and the wine!!
The author Peter Mayle and his wife Jennie visit the Cote d’Azur, or French Riviera, for a two-week vacation in search of sunshine and to get away from England’s winters. They then plan to travel to Aix-en-Provence in southern France. When they first arrive, they are so enchanted with the life and landscape of the area that they decide to leave England for good and relocate to Provence. They thought it was a crazy decision at first, but once they made it, there was no going back!
What follows is a memoir by the author of his twenty-five years in the South of France—the lessons learned, culinary delights enjoyed, and various types of wine he relished, as well as changes observed with the rise in popularity of Provence for its idyllic setting and the influx of tourists in the area.
The book helps you in learning a great deal about life in France as an outsider. It was like taking a trip around the world from the comfort of your own home. Made me want to travel to Provence, visit small towns with breathtaking views. Made me hungry because the author describes excellent food and good meals from local cafes and restaurants. And crave for a glass of Rose, or maybe just fine wine in general.
