Boutinot began as a tiny importer in 1980, specialising in French wines. After 10 years, business had grown sufficiently so that a few key members decided to set up an office in Burgundy. Today, Boutinot has over 20 winemaking employees who take care of production across the whole of France, covering fresh whites and rosés from Gascony, mineral wines from Burgundy, and joyful varietal wines from Languedoc among others. There’s always plenty of interesting juice around!
La Grand Plage was established with one aim in mind – to express the combination of the countryside and the seaside of the southern reaches of France. The rolling hills covered with wild thyme, rosemary, lavender, olive trees and bright flowers, the smell of salt in the air, the gentle breeze from the Mediterranean….all these factors contribute to the unique terroir of the south of France, and these are aromas, flavours and feelings that should be bottled.
By using varieties that have been planted in the region for years, from established vineyards, these wines are true expressions of the region. A gentle use of oak, allowing the fruit to shine, is also very important, and La Grand Plage is certainly a gentle wine. The mature winemaking practices are tied to the vineyards selection, and ensure that the wines are always fresh and pure.
This luscious and textural blend is very much a food wine – rich redcurrant flavours provided by Grenache and tangy raspberry and spice from Cinsault before a dry and fresh finish. A classic rosé, made with traditional Languedoc varietals….classics are called that way for a reason!
