Imagine your library, home office, corridor, or living room with this magnificent antique French Hunting style buffet containing your collection of books while also serving as a lovely decorative focus piece. The antique Renaissance Hunting style buffet/bookcase is a genuine import from France and dates to circa 1880. It is exquisitely carved with wonderful features. The lower doors are carved with a fox on one and a hunting hound on the other, and the bookshelf is made of oak wood with a gorgeous worn patina. This is representative of the traditional Hunting style, which originated with King Francis I of France, who preferred to furnish his royal hunting lodges with furnishings that evoked the hunt’s rural world. The two creatures have incredible lifelike detail carved into them. The carver must have watched a lot of dogs sniffing for the smell, because the fur on the dog and the fox appears like it waves with the movement of the animals! Leafy vegetation and a shield are among the other carvings. The upper two doors’ have chicken wire to give them a rustic Hunting look. The upper and bottom cabinets, as well as two drawers, provide enough storage in this beautiful 1880 antique French Renaissance Hunting style bookcase.
