Fantasy about escaping the gloom and living “The Continental Life”…..

Now my, works done, I could, move on,
Live the continental life,
I could pack up, sell me stuff,
Leave all the trouble and strife.
Leave all my sorrows behind.

I could rent a place, spend my days,
oOt on the balcony,
In the sunshine, with a glass of wine,
Accordions in the street,
Serenading me to sleep.

Take a stroll down the avenues,
A coffee beneath the trees,
Wasting my days in the dappled shade,
Doing as I please,
Olives bread and cheese,
And a Madeleine.

When the night falls, I could take a walk,
To a little cafe bar,
Could meet friends, now and then,
Strumming the old guitar,
Singing Our Shangrila.

Could be Paris, or Italy,
Anywhere the sun will shine,
Where the pace is slow,
And noone knows,
The history I left behind,
The misery of 9 to 5.

O to wake as the daylight breaks,
Songbirds in the trees,
My sleepy head still dreaming yet,
Of sparkling sapphire seas,
Perfumes on the breeze,
And a French tart.

Now my works done,
I could move on,
Live the Continental life,
I could pack up, sell me stuff,
Leave all the trouble and strife,
Leave all my sorrows behind.
