Pierre Chermette is a legend of Beaujolais, consistently making great wine. Tending to many vineyard plots, Pierre knows how to capture the full spectrum of what Gamay can do. These wines are never linear in quality from entry to expensive, they are all high quality at every price point. And not only is a deft hand with Gamay – Chardonnay and sparkling wines all seem infused with that Chermette magic.
The wines are made with wisdom and authenticity to place. Using sustainable agricultural practices, everything is done by hand, with grapes picked as concentrated and ripe as possible. Although they are traditional in the cellar, there is nothing gritty or green in these flavours. The style is full, silky and concentrated, and wines that both drink well early and can age remarkably well.
A classy Cremant (that is, a French traditional method sparkling wine from anywhere but Champagne!) that just oozes character. Made from Chardonnay from a selection of vineyards in Beaujolais, this has notes of ripe pear, lemon curd, mandarin peel and some apple. There’s chamomile and wheat, and a frame of generous acidity. Buttery yet fresh.
