Croque Monsieur
6 Slices of Oat Bread or any bread of your choice
1 Tbsp of Mustard
2 Tbsp of Unsalted Butter
1 Tbsp of All Purpose Flour
180 ml of Milk
35 gr of Freshly Grated Cheese
A Touch of Freshly Grated Nutmeg
Salt and Pepper to taste
A few slices of Swiss Cheese
A few slices of cooked chicken ham
2 Tbsp of Melted Butter
Preparation
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees. Brush both sides of the bread with melted butter and pop them in the oven to toast on both sides.
In a saucepan, melt the butter, add the flour and cook them together stirring constantly. Add the milk, cheese, salt, pepper and nutmeg and cook the sauce on medium heat until it thickens.
Switch the broiler on to high. To assemble the sandwich, smear some of the mustard on one slice of the toasted bread, then arrange a row of cheese, chicken ham and then another row of cheese and chicken ham. Top with the other slice of bread, smear some of the bechamel on top of the bread and top it with a slice of cheese.
Put the sandwiches in the oven, but do not place them at the top of the oven, as the cheese may burn. Sandwiches are done when it is cheese brown and bubble.
