Stoney Rise is the name of the winery founded by Joe and Lou Holyman in 2004 in the Tamar Valley of northern Tasmania. Joe is a winemaker and his family have been involved in growing grapes and making wine in Tasmania since 1984. Lou cut her teeth working in vineyards and cellar doors across South Australia, before specialising in the behind the scenes work of running the business. Joe does the wine, Lou does the numbers!

They make two ‘ranges’ of wine – Stoney Rise and Holyman. The Holyman wines come exclusively from their own vines, planted in 1986 by the preceding owners of their site. For the Stoney Rise wines, they supplement this fruit with quality fruit from northern Tasmania. With a penchant for lesser recognised varieties and ultimate deliciousness in wine, both ranges offer texture and intrigue. Not only one of the best wineries in Tasmania, but forging a name for themselves as a leading light in all of Australia.

Trousseau is a rare, obscure red grape from the Jura in the east of France. Winemaker Joe Holyman happens to enjoy rare and obscure, thus this wine. Pinot-esque with sour cherry, clove and red florals. Light in texture, soft and gentle, but with vibrant acidity. Very easy to drink.
