To showcase French culture and the typically French art of living to the world, the Comité Colbert was founded by Jean-Jacques Guerlain in 1954. Today, the association boasts 81 brands and cultural institutions across 13 business sectors. The big names include CÉLINE, Chanel and Givenchy.
Elisabeth Ponsolle des Portes, the President and CEO of the association, leads her membership in promoting French luxury goods throughout the world.
A former high-school teacher, Elisabeth is passionate about literature and is an expert on the works of Marcel Proust. She believes that languages contain emotions and that words can be powerful; a writer can create a whole new world for readers. And this is what luxury can also do. Be it wine or fashion, luxury can give us new experiences and vision. They bring us beauty as well as the culture behind this. The allure and culture of luxury should be spread to many more people – which is exactly what the Comité Colbert is doing now.
This episode of Fashion Insiders brings you the world of luxury as viewed by Elisabeth Ponsolle des Portes, alongside her insights and how she personally appreciates and promotes French luxury and art.
