We are on “J” this week for the LDW Alphabet Adventure and since we missed last week, we are making up for it with TWO outstanding J wines this week.
Jongieux Domaine Carrel Eugène Et Fills, 2019, $12.99/bottle
The French white wine was made of Savoie grapes planted on the slopes of Mont du Chat & Charvas (borders Switzerland) at an altitude of 300 meters. It has lovely fruit notes, floral undertones, and a slight minerality on the finish. The Carrel family has managed this land for over 6 generations and the vineyards are located in the hamlet of Jongieux Le Haut. I’ve enjoyed this wine all on its own as an aperitif or paired with shellfish!
Domaine De La Janasse Reserve, 2018, $17.99/bottle
This gorgeous red wine is from Côtes Du Rhône region of France and is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault & Mourvedre. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and the vineyards are adjacent to Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It’s moderately tannic, has beautiful structure, crushed berry fruit flavors with a hint of licorice. I’d pair this with a grilled steak or any grilled meat!
Thanks for following along, and as always, if you missed any of the past weeks, you can click on the hashtag #LDWAlphabetAdventure on Facebook or Instagram and see them all. Stay tuned for next week when we tackle “K”!
