Dos Latinas, Lorena Monroe with Lisa Astorga-Watel. Born in Houston, raised in Chile, Chef Lisa Astorga-Watel is a fusion of culture and brings that passion to her trade.
She refined her culinary skills at Houston Art Institute and as part of her education she travelled the world sophisticating her skills and expanding her tastes. She worked at various restaurants until she accepted an opportunity to join filmmaker and actor Tommy Lee Jones as his personal Chef.
During her tour, she met the love of her life, Chef Damien Watel (pronounced va-tel). They married and created a beautiful family with their son Enzo and Damien’s two children Harry and Stephanie.
Working independently, they operated two successful restaurants in San Antonio, Texas. Chef Watel had Chez Vatel Bistro which was known for its outstanding French fare. Lisa opened Bite, a cool, small space known more for “boutique” dining experiences.
They combined efforts and created Bist09, with classic French cuisine presented in a timeless classic ambiance.
Lisa is currently expanding her repertoire to include even more unique culinary experiences. Surprise!
