We will be tasting Evolúció’s 2018 Furmint from Tokaj!

Vocabulary!
-Furmint: a white grape grown most widely in Hungary.
-Tokaj: a wine region in the foothills of the Zemplén Mountains in Hungary characterized by slight humidity and volcanic rock.
-Tokaji Aszú: a sweet wine made in Tokaj from Furmint, Hárslevelű, and Muscat Blanc.
-Botrytis: noble rot; this fungus can grow on wine grapes in humid environments and pierce the skin of the grape, allowing water to escape and sugars to become more concentrated in the berry.
-Hárslevelű: “Lime leaf”; a white grape grown mostly in Hungary; often mixed with Muscat Blanc and Furmint for Tokaji Aszú.
-Muscat Blanc: a white grape that is sometimes included in Tokaji Aszú with Furmint and Hárslevelű.
-King Louis XV: the French monarch who favored Tokaji Aszú and called it “Vinum Regum, Rex Vinorum”
-Zemplén Mountains: a mountain range in Hungary.
-Swabian: “Schwabe”; a Germanic person from the Swabian part of Bavaria; many Swabians immigrated to Hungary from 1740 to 1790.
-Pole: a Polish person; Hungary and Poland have had close relations over centuries; the earliest sign of Polish immigration to Hungary began in the early Middle Ages.
-Armenian: a citizen of Armenia; Armenians likely reached Hungary from the Balkans around the middle of the Middle Ages.
-Romanian: a citizen of Romania; Romanians immigrated to Hungary in 1918 during the Romanian military occupation of Transylvania.
-1730: the year of the first vineyard classification system.
-1757: the year Tokaj became the first appellation.
