The French 75 cocktail first appeared in print in 1927. The french 75 actually celebrates the firepower of the world war 1 75-millimeter field gun. Originally this drink consisted of gin, apple brandy, grenadine, and lemon juice served in a cocktail glass. The modern version of this cocktail has become a gin-based champagne cocktail with lemon juice and sugar instead.
