Today I am going to talk about one of the biggest success stories of the last decade, a wine that has become synonymous with cheerful sparkling wine – I will tell you everything you need to know about Prosecco! The root of the name Prosecco is NOT the Italian word for Dry – Secco – but rather the Slovene word Proseku which means ‘path cut through the woods. The wine got its name from the village with the same name which is today a suburb of Trieste in the North East of Italy, right on the border to Slovenia. Winemaking in this region goes back to at least the first century and Prosecco as a name for a wine style became popular in the 1500s and it was also used in other parts of Friuli Venezia Gulia and Veneto.
