Story Time Animated 2
I haven’t always been a genius. I used to be just plain old Jake, 10 years old and not really that clever to be honest. But that all changed the day I took part in a scientific experiment.
You see, my Dad is a really mad scientist and I persuaded him to let me help out with his experiment. Little did I know my whole world was about to change.
But before I go on, make sure you like and subscribe and hit that notification bell. You could even become as clever as me!!!
At school I was one of those kids who went pretty much unnoticed. I was definitely not a Grade A student. It took me a while, but I usually grasped things in the end. I was pretty much the opposite to Carly. Carly was my secret crush, unfortunately she had no idea who I was. She was in the advanced class, the class for all the gifted kids. They all sat together at break time and lunchtime, huddled over their books, laughing at an algebra equation as though it were a cartoon.
As I walked to my table with my lunch tray I felt sure Carly was looking at me, she was waving.
“Hi Carly.” I said, grinning from ear to ear.
She just looked straight through me, as though I wasn’t there. I turned and saw her friend Bethany coming into the dining room. Oh god, how embarrassing! Carly wasn’t waving at me, she had seen Bethany. I just ran to my table, hoping nobody had noticed. But of course everyone had.
“What a loser!” Laughed Simon, the school bully.
All the other kids were laughing too. The rest of the afternoon everywhere I went kids would call out,
“Hi Carly, Hi Carly.”
I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me. I couldn’t wait for the day to be over. I ran home as quickly as I could. When I got home my Dad was sitting at the kitchen table talking to mum. He looked very serious.
“I’m never going to be able to get this experiment started, if I can’t get a volunteer.” Said Dad.
“Don’t worry dear.” Replied Mum. “I’m sure someone will turn up.”
“Hi Dad, what’s wrong?” I asked him.
“Don’t bother your father, Jake. He is busy.”
“No, no. It’s ok.” Said Dad. “I’ve always got time to talk to Jake.”
Dad explained that he was in the middle of an amazing experiment which could change the world but he needed a volunteer and couldn’t find one.
“I’ll do it!” I said.
Dad laughed,
“You’re too young Jake.” He said.
“No, I’m not, please Dad. I want to help.” I said.
Dad looked at Mum and she smiled,
“Ok, if he wants to help out and you’re sure it is safe, then he can.”
So that’s how I ended up being the guinea pig in Dad’s experiment. I went with Dad to his laboratory and he did loads of tests and decided I was fit to go ahead with the experiment. He fitted me up to this chair and connected a helmet to my head. Then, he flicked a switch, and I think I blacked out. When I opened my eyes again, apparently 5 hours had passed and the experiment was done. Everything went well, I was so happy to help Dad out.
It wasn’t long after the experiment that I started to notice things had changed. I suddenly couldn’t wait to learn. I just wanted to study and study. I spent all of my free time searching the internet for more and more information on every subject possible. I read a whole encyclopedia in one weekend. Maths questions that had once seemed so difficult I just sailed through.
My teachers at school were quick to notice my improvement. I was moved up to the advanced class. At first I was a little nervous, but I soon realised I was just as clever as everyone in the class. In fact, I was top of the class! That’s when Carly started to notice me.
