There’s an estimated 5 million vending machines in Japan according to the Japan Times, & 4.6 million vending machines in the United States according to MarketWatch. However, the U.S.A. land size is 26 times bigger than Japan, making it seem like there’s vending machines everywhere in Japan, but few in the U.S. In addition, the U.S. machines are dominated by Coke & Pepsi for beverages, and Hershey, Mars & Frito-Lay for Snacks. In Japan, there’s a lot more competition offering a much wider selection of products you can find in vending machines. Woohoo!
