In French, the verb ‘croquer’ means ‘to crunch’. There comes the name Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame. This is a hot sandwich made with ham and cheese (and bread of course!) It was originated in French cafés as a quick snack. As we know ‘Monsieur’ means ‘Sir’ and ‘Madame’ means ‘Madam’, so there’s a difference of poached egg. After making croque monsieur, you just have to add a poached egg on it to turn it into croque madame! That’s it!
