⭐The 7 French Christmas Traditions mentioned in this video:
🔹1. Advent Calendars: Common world-wide, this tradition is about receiving little gifts for the days of december leading up to Christmas. Chocolate is the most common treat, but don’t be surprised if you see little wine bottles from different regions of France!
🔹2. Midnight Mass: This is a common catholic tradition where families gather for a late dinner before heading to the cathedrale for mass at midnight!
🔹3. Le Réveillon: This is the name of the big Christmas family dinner that you have on Christmas Eve or Christmas day with many traditional French dishes like foie gras, duck, goose, other meat based dishes (it’s not common to be vegetarian in France, with the exception of Parisians ^^)
🔹4. Le Père Fouettard: This the name of the “Bad Santa” commonly found in French, Swiss, and German Christmas culture! “Le Père Noël (Santa) gives out the good gifts to the good kids, meanwhile “Le Père Fouettard” hands out the coal and bad gifts to the bad kids;).
🔹5. Papillotes: These little gold wrapper covered candies are typical for the holiday season in France. There are little messages written on the inside of the wrapper with cute French quotes about life and love. This tradition comes from a young factory worker in 19th Century Lyon, France. He would write little love notes to a girl he had a crush on to confess his love to her secretly, and here we are continuing the tradition with these clever goodies on Christmas.
🔹6. French Christmas Markets: After 7 years of living in France, I have visited French Christmas markets all around France. They all have their own unique specialties and traditions, but one thing remains the same and that’s the amazing hot foods and beverages, especially the “vin chaud” (hot wine)! Each market will have some local specialties which makes each experience a little different and always super festive!
🔹7. Les Treize: This religious term stands for Jesus and his 12 disciples, but it refers to the tasty desserts you’ll find on a French Christmas dinner table! From “tartes” (pies) and “gateaux” (cakes), anddddd…..this special surpise dessert that I’ll show you at the end of this video which is specific to the holiday season and is a BIG Christmas tradition in France!

Thanks for watching and seeya in the next one, ciao ciao for now ✌🏽.
