During recent disputes between the U.S. and E.U. and France, the United States has imposed high tariffs on French wines. This tariff only applies to wines below 14%, so to avoid these tariffs, the French winemakers raised the percentage of their wine to above 14%. This can be used as an important business lesson to never stop adjusting just because you face adversity.

Do you like strong wines? If so, then you’re in luck. I have heard recently that French winemakers are not stopping the fermentation to allow their wine to have an ABV of more than 14%. Why is this relevant? Because after the recent “wine war” between the United States and the European Union, certain wines that have an ABV below 14% are subject to higher tariffs. In my first Morning Musings book, I talked about the subject of wine tariffs twice. The first Musing I did on this was titled “Do You Like American Wine?” and the other one was labeled “Wine and Cheese War”. Now, over a year later, the French seemed to have tricked the system. By allowing a higher percentage of alcohol in the wine, this is not classified to be wine under this certain tariff. In other words, if you are in trouble, be creative and you will solve your problem because now wine is selling again.
