Looking into buying our first home and fell in love with this chalet style place, however it seems like it would be difficult to decorate (bit of a knotty pine overload!!). How would you decorate this or change it?
I just love knotty pine 💚 I think it already looks great! I would lean into it and use the “Hudson bay blanket” (wool blankets with the green/yellow/red etc stripes)…but that’s just me!

Solid, light colored curtains and large rugs, throws, and large, not-busy artwork. You really need some soft places for the eyes to rest. And I generally wouldn’t say this, but maybe paint the doors, doorframes, and window trim to provide some contrast to break up the overwhelming oak. There’s plenty of other wood to go around!
I would change the way I conceived it, and think of it like an art gallery. I would do large colorful paintings, wall hangings and rugs. I would choose one or two main strong colors, but let other colors flow in. Maybe even a lot of black or dark cinnamon. You need decorative items and furniture things that have a lot of visual oomph. I would keep the decorating sort of sparse but high impact and large. Having a beautiful view of trees in itself is a visual element, and try to enhance it. The small things on the wall such as the clock, calendar and photos look messy and unintentional. (I know those aren’t yours but I’m saying it would be good to avoid things on the wall that weren’t interesting and decorative.). I would not try and change it, it can be worked with. Another way to think about it is that the knotty pine is visually stimulating, so giving your eye large impactful places to rest would be helpful.

In the areas where the ceiling is low, I think I’d paint the ceiling to keep it from feeling closed in. But other than that, I’d keep all the wood and just “lean in” with the decor. Neutral furniture, beautiful rugs, statement art.

I’m from England so everything here is made of brick, so this might not be right but, can you stain some of the wood? So that the walls are different shades for different rooms maybe? White-washed knotty pine would go lovely with the floor to brighten up the living room, for example.

I personally can’t stand knotty pine. That said, the high ceilings and spacious rooms you have would definitely make it more tolerable. I would go with a beautiful white couch and chairs. I’d keep everything nice and light and maybe add some canteloupe or celery colored throw pillows and a throw for the couch. How about a chair swing and maybe a cool shag rug that’s white?

Not by painting it lol. I love the look of a very woodsy cabin.

GORGEOUS! I wouldn’t change it at all, and probably would shy away from hanging too much on the walls. Colourful rugs, statement lamps, lots of plants – all would add so much to the space without taking away from the beauty of the walls. Maybe some stands or bookshelves to add colour and decor without hanging things on the walls.
