Any ideas welcome, immediate and possibly cost effective, and (at a later date) something more extensive/sink removal and new base ideas.

backsplash stick on? Wallpaper? Paint?

Space and thoughts details below::

The backsplash part is laminate over particle board that is older and the laminate is loose and the particle board leaves pieces that fall down around it especially when touched/cleaned.

The bathroom is cathedral ceiling, in post and beam house(pine, reddish) so the space with the mirror and right wall with towel hanger goes up to the ceiling, very high. The right wall around the corner is immediately the toilet next to the sink. The left wall is the shower wall backside, specifically the side with the shower head. It is an enclosed box and cuts off, not going all the way up to the ceiling.

Eventually would like to rip out the whole sink/insert and either put in a build in or a standing sink cabinet? New faucet/basin and paint the walls of the entire bathroom and maybe paint the walls in this area or around the sink do a nice wallpaper and/or high metal(faux?) backsplash

Ideas in the whole space, theme, and things I can do easily(than gutting) welcome as well as total gut/hardware etc anything. I’d just especially like to know what I can do for the space to tide it over before a removal as the space will probably not be able to be fully updated till later, so things like I can overlay, or do for the deteriorating backsplash to cover it for now that looks nice and seals in the particle board pieces?

— the underside of the countertop is also exposed particle board and leaves sprinkles on the floor, shown in last photo from below looking up.

    I’m so sorry, but that lighting all tangled together is making my eye twitch and my ADHD can’t focus on anything else. 😭 A much longer rope light decoratively twined around the big beam could work if you really want that look, instead of mixed with the vanity light. Also plug it in a more hidden outlet?
