Hi everyone! This is a small guest bedroom/office space that I’m redecorating. I’m at a bit of a loss as to how to arrange everything. Everything currently on the walls will come down. (And ignore the ceiling patch above the bed – that is a plaster repair job that will happen in the next few weeks.)

I have a black arched cabinet that will go in the corner next to the desk. (picture #5) I am also open to changing the layout if there’s a better way to fit the three pieces of furniture. I’m mainly planning to use this room as a reading/journaling/computer area, and it has an extra bed for guest room needs as they come up.

  1. I have no idea what color bedding to get.

  2. Where should that large picture go? I originally wanted it to go above the bed, but I think that is too tight of a space. Maybe above the desk, but I don’t know if that’s going to clash with the chair (which I love) instead of compliment it. So maybe against the blank wall next to the bed, but I feel like that makes it not a focal point. I wanted you to see the picture when you walked into the room.

  3. I also have an arched gold framed mirror that I was originally planning to put above the desk when I thought the picture would go above the headboard. It can go anywhere or it can go back to the store lol.

  4. I plan to put some photos in gold frames on the walls if it doesn’t look too busy once everything’s in place. I don’t have to though. I was going to make a judgment call once I saw the main parts of the room in place. I also was going to put a plant stand or maybe some wall hanging plants or plants hanging from the ceiling. Or shelves? I don’t know But again I was going to make that call once the room was established.

  5. I am also open to replacing the desk with something smaller or a different color. That desk is just one that I currently have and I’m using for now.

I’m open to any and all suggestions! Thank you for your help!

I would change the bed to a daybed or at least make it look like a daybed

If you put the arched mirror above the desk it will (sort of) give you the illusion of more space in the home, except that might not totally work because of how your home is designed. Instead of extending the visual length of the hallway, you’d really just see yourself as you walked towards the guest room. For that reason I’d probably put the large picture above the desk and then put the framed mirror above the bed, so that it can reflect sunlight back into the room. But since you didn’t post a photo of the mirror I’m not sure what it looks like, so I can’t really gauge the aesthetics of it.

I would not put that dark arched cabinet next to the desk, I think it doesn’t match the rest of the furniture and will make the room a bit claustrophobic. If you really need the storage space in the room, I’d put it to the right of the door instead, but I do like that little shelf with the three knobs.

I really like this little room. It’s cozy and you’ve configured it in a way that I think takes good advantage of the space. The hanging plant is nice, too.

The overhead light is sucking the vibe out of the room. Either turn it off and get some lamps or replace the bulb with a much warmer light. Looks like you could fit at least two – one on the desk and another in the corner.

I would +1 the suggestion for a mirror on the desk. Would help make the room look bigger.
