From Thomas Bachelder in Niagara, Ontario, who I consider the top winemaker in Canada. We enjoyed this bottle with a charcuterie board with our neighbour for happy hour. Simply outstanding, very reminiscent of Burgundy offerings such as Fleurie and Morgon, in my opinion of course.
Don't let the light ruby colour deceive you, this wine has intense notes of raspberry, strawberry and black cherry on the nose, very appealing. And all of that in the mouth plus hints of leather and black currant, and a nice medium finish. Very well balanced acids, and tannins. From first opening to when we finished the bottle 2 hours later, the intensity and depth really increased. Our neighbour is a lover of everything burgundy, and she kept asking, where is this from again?
I would give it 92 points. Price was $32 CAD (plus taxes), converts to about $23 USD. Incredible value. Bachelder only makes Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and obviously this focus has paid off.
