  1. Tenuta di Renieri Grido Toscana IGT 2012, Tuscany

Inky in color with a reddish rim.

Beautiful nose of red and black fruits with cedar, licorice, chocolates, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf, dark coffee and black pepper.

    Full-bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, currants, plums, licorice, light oak, dark coffee, peppercorn, earth, herbs and mediterranean spices.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This 14 year old Merlot from Tuscany is a bit past its prime, but still very drinkable.

Showing nice complexity, but lacking balance. I’ve had this vintage 7 years ago, and it was drinking better.

    Wine Enthusiasts 89 points.

Needed an hour to open up, and better with food.

100% Merlot grapes were aged in new oak barrels for 24 months.

    14.5% alcohol by volume.

    90 points.

    $40.

One of the plots on El Rapolao is planted with Merlot. You can be sure that I’ll join you on a Merlot Thursday once I find a bottle!
