Bright red fruits, red cherry and even some raspberry, I felt like terra cotta too, and floral. I’m still learning to call the particular notes, but the overall sensation of the smell was remarkably light and heady, really beautiful and enticing. On the pallete it was lighter than a typical CC, with a great balance between acidity and soft tannins, just a real pleasure to drink. We had it with home-made pizza. I generally love CC and this was one of my all-time favourites of the annata, but it could be influenced by the back story. We picked this up at the winery in Tuscany, very small producer recommended to us by a local woman we met at a restaurant (friend of a friend) who worked in the wine industry. They opened up just to show us around and we loved what they had, muddled through in Spanish as they spoke no English. We’re already planning a return trip, and highly recommend a visit if you like a little off-the-beaten track style of experience.
