St Nesbit was a boutique producer in New Zealand which, sadly, no longer exists.
But they went out with a bang with their last release, the 2010, born out of an absolute dream vintage. This wine is drinking spectacularly now—it is every bit as good as any fine Bordeaux I’ve ever had—and may even improve further, though I’d already give it 98 points.
However, the purpose of this post is not to extol the virtues of this wine, as great as it is.
I opened this wine in tribute to my best friend who was taken from this world far too soon, whose funeral is today. I met him in 2010 not far from where this was made, so the wine felt symbolic. Like this wine, there will never be anyone else like him again. I would give anything to be sharing it with him right now rather than reddit.
As to why I even posted that, I’m really not that sure. If anything, I suppose I would just join the chorus of those encouraging people not to wait too long to open their special bottles, as tomorrow is not guaranteed.
