Hey I have a small NY apartment and thought the best place to keep my cats litter was in the bath room. I was keeping towels on the shelves but I don’t know if that’s ’gross’ with the cat litter underneath? Doesn’t bother me but would like suggestions. I clean it every day any idea how to decorate or utilize this space? Thank you in advance!

I would use a tension rod to put a curtain in front of the whole thing. Those wire shelves are unfortunately never cute no matter how you style them. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with keeping towels there, but if it seems odd you can always keep cleaning supplies and bathroom supplies there.
I would put the towels into the closet. The litter dust will float up and land on the towels if they’re not put away.
I definitely recommend getting a top for the litter box. Or, you might just need to get a completely new one that comes with a top.
Guests will appreciate it and it’s less mess if your cat kicks litter around after going.
Random note, but Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal litter is what I used when I was in a small apartment and it captures smells so well compared to other brands.
I think you’re fine putting towels there
We used to live in a small townhouse and the only spot for the litter box was the closet, my mom had towels and bedding in there. It never caused any issues.
You can put a box of baking soda in there to absorb smells – the ones you buy for the fridge.
Get an enclosed litter box. There are wooden ones that look like furniture or a beige or white enclosed plastic one.
My cat won’t use enclosed litter boxes and I once had a similar situation. I would get some sort of bin or drawer solution for the shelves instead. Like those clear acrylic shoe storage drawers, for example.
