So… I thought a bloody red sofa would be a cool centerpiece for my living room. I took all the measurements, ran simulations, even let AI come up with layouts, and now I’m second-guessing everything. It’s a corner sofa, and the color is super bold. But looking at it, I can’t tell if it actually works or if it’s just… wrong. Maybe something lighter is better… or just a normal sofa not to make the room too crammed up?
Can someone with actual vision in interior design help me? Is red really the best choice here, or am I doomed to be the person with the screaming sofa in the corner? 😭

People don’t commonly recognize that red is a dark color. With all of the dark color on the opposite wall, the red is making for a dark space. Besides that, the red you’ve chosen doesn’t go well with the floor color. The image with the smaller sofa does make the room look more light and open. But that’s partly because that photo literally shows the room with the windows uncovered and more light coming in.
The red you’re showing doesn’t scream at all. It’s more of a burgundy and heavy looking. The same mustard tone you have in the floor color isn’t pleasing at all as sofa cushions against that red.
Not an interior designer — but if you’re stuck with the bloody red sofa, maybe a change of pillows would make it look better. Get something plain and neutral, add an ivory rug, maybe swap the center table with something that looks and feels lighter.. I think your other furniture are too dark and heavy to complement the bloody red sofa and they’re all clashing.
Since it’s a small space, I’d personally go with the lighter color sofa, remove the center table and replace it with something like a light colored rolling laptop table that could serve as a side table for your sofa or a work station when you’re sitting on the sofa.. maybe add a plant and some lamps so the light is diffused and there’s different sources of small light instead of one overhead one.. that should do the trick..
You might want to paint the wall if you could. The red sofa actually works with the black coffee table, shelves and tv console, you just have to go “moody” and kind of color drench it. The walls are just a bit bare and most the visual interests in the room are low towards the floor. Add rug and plants you should be good.
I love that flooring but this room is screaming for an area rug!
I think the red sofa and the floor do go well together.
You just need a cooling, contrasting tone on the wall like sage green, or duck egg blue so it’s not so firey.
I think the red sofa can work if you make it feel more purposeful. This means fully embracing it as a pillar of the design. Look for inspo pics of living rooms with red sofas.
Here’s one I love. Note how other bold colors (blues and yellows) are utilized. Also notice the black accents. Large prints will likely be your friend.

I like the red. A rug will help.
I don’t like the blue pillows or art. The window treatments could use a change too.
The right side of the room looks really dark and heavy. Is there a fireplace behind the tv and other things?
What can be removed and decluttered?
