I just purchased my first home and desperately need advice from those with a keen eye.

The flooring is not my style at all and I like more brown/natural wood tones. I'm having a baby in a few months and the floors are staying, so I have to work with what we got. Any suggestions for paint/decor that would help avoid feeling like I'm trapped in millennial greige vinyl plank hell? (I'm a millennial myself so no offense if anyone digs this look. It was in 90% of the houses I toured and is just not my thing).

Details:

  • White trim and doors throughout the entire home.
  • All bulbs will eventually be swapped to warm light.
  • Fireplace (in second pic) is already removed, and I plan to remove the black wallpaper on the kitchen island.
  • Stairs transition to a warm brown/taupe carpet leading to the loft. I’m thinking of changing the paint color in the stairway.
  • We have a hodgepodge of furniture (natural wood oak and rustic gray).

I'd love any color/accent/decor suggestions that would help make it feel warmer and not so cold. Thank you in advance!

Bring in color with rugs, paint, new curtains (they should hit the floor), artwork, etc. The usual. Go with colors that appeal to you. Paint should be chosen depending on if you get cool or warm light in each room. Every major paint retailer has great info on their websites how to chose paint and most even show how the hue changes with light changes over 24 hours. Benjamin Moore is a good start

Use curtains with color of your choice (I would suggest some lively colors but not too vibrant).

Some wall paintings will really make it more interesting and fill up your space, im a designer and artist you can check out my wall paintings, I have alot of sizes and framed and unframed options as well. Here : [Wall paintings ](https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/sans.inkartist/?utm_source=ig&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio&fbclid=PAb21jcAQGxNpleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA81NjcwNjczNDMzNTI0MjcAAafQ7CS25jCRADhssf2YG0q076z68yD7zqORUMDAQKmc3urE05BJcX_E_v30ww_aem_1l7pdC5UESF6AfRbP0XU1w)

My color palette is very minimal so I thought it’ll go well with the walls and floor.
Just select the framed option and click what you like the most.

  3. I mean it’s just another neutral…decorate it however you’d decorate if the floors were oak or walnut

Furniture doesn’t need to match the flooring colour it just needs to match other decor items since you never really look at couch or table legs you look at how the couch colour matches or doesn’t match the rug/curtains/pillows etc…having a hodgepodge of furniture is likely what will hinder more then the floors ever will

So you can do literally anything…go crazy and make it ‘you’!
