I moved into a studio apartment a while back and have been doubting about getting a rug ever since. I think it would make the space more cozy, but I’m also afraid the space might be too small for one and make it look too crowded.

What would you all recommend? If I should get a rug, what kind of rug would suit my space?

Yes, you should. And what kinds depends on what you like. The space is very tastefully done but is missing the colour. I would get a geometric pattern rug with loads of colours. This will ensure the layout of the rug matches the geometric look of the room at the same time enliven it with colours.

How about a runner? The longer, narrower shape wouldn’t overtake the space and as previously mentioned, you can afford to go bright.

The area is to small for a rug. Sometimes less is best.

Yes, there doesn’t seem to be a rug in that picture. Definitely missing.

A rug won’t crowd the space if you size it right – look for something that fits under the front legs of your furniture or sits just in the seating area. It’ll actually help define zones in a studio, which makes it feel less like one big open box. For cozy without bulk, maybe a low-pile or flatweave in a warm neutral.
