Partner and I are designing our space for the first time, and I’m a little unsure on which direction to go. In particular we’d like to get a nice dresser, but that’s an aesthetic commitment!

Goal of this space is to be lovely, cozy, and a little playful. Our general tastes lean towards mcm, deco, and nouveau (cozy architecture that’s overgrown with some nature). Bedroom also gets used as an occasional WFH space.

I’d appreciate some outside thoughts/suggestions, as I’ve been living in my head/moodboard for too long 🙂

The second dresser is too modern in comparison to the other pieces and clashes with that vintage style you’re going for. I think the first dresser works better because it’s a similar tone of wood and has that same rounded shape that the table does. I think when you have vintage furniture pieces, you can basically mix and match the other decor without it clashing too much! Makes for a nice eclectic feel. I love that floor lamp also, so pretty!!

It sounds and looks from your choices and your description of your tastes (playful, cozy, mix of styles) that you could go toward Boho with a lot of styles and patterns and eras of furniture mixing. I love the matched-split veneer dresser, it’s gorgeous… the nightstand is a little clashy style wise and the lamp is straight up Art nouveau, but all the first pic’s items would/could fit in a Boho look. The dresser in the second pic and the side table/night stand don’t seem coherent enough… which one do you love the best?

I’d take it slowly and plan everything out before you leap… but if you had the dresser with the nouveau lines as the first piece it would be the piece that drives everything else.

I’d say lean into your style. Reading your description it sounds like option 1 is more your style. Or that’s what I’d pick personally and based off what you said you’re looking for. A timeless piece is always worth the investment. Especially if it brings you joy. There’s always ways to “redecorate” a statement piece with lamps, picture frames, etc.

What is the space used for? Office bedroom?

Additionally, the second dresser looks too modern IMO with the lamp and side table you have in both pictures. The woods don’t match and feel like they are clashing for attention.
