I'm moving into my first home and I want to update the living room, but I need help/opinions. The living room measures 16ft x 11ft (definitely looks smaller in the pictures). I have specific measurements of the other walls/features and such if needed. Overall, I want to go with a cottagecore/boho/farmhouse/natural vibe throughout the house. I love green and natural wood color and am planning on adding plants and natural decorations.
For the walls, I know I want to make them green, but I'm not sure exactly what color to go with. I'm thinking a sage green for now, something with lower saturation but lighter in color. I'm not sure if I should add texture to the longer 16ft back wall or if I should keep the wall with the archway/entrance to the kitchen/dining room white and add texture there as well. The texture for the walls would most likely be wood paneling painted green or white. For the wall against the staircase, I don't know if I should just paint it green or put a mural/wallpaper there. I'd really like more sitting space, but I'm not sure if that's something I can fit there.
For the ceiling, I'm a huge fan of ceiling wood beams/paneling, but I'm afraid that the ceiling is too low for wood beams, especially with the ceiling fan. I was thinking maybe white or natural colored wood paneling with some shallow wood beams if I did want to add texture, or I might just say screw it and keep it how it is.
For the archway, I'm a bit conflicted here. I would absolutely love a wooden archway, but I feel like it may take up too much space on both sides. I need those sides for shelving and entry way furniture. I was thinking maybe just adding a white trim for the living room side, and in the dining room side I would then add the wooden archway to where you can't see it from the living room side. I'm not sure if that's a scuffed concept though.
For furniture, I was thinking about going with white and natural colored wood furniture to go with the green and white throughout the living room. I definitely need shelving, and I was thinking about putting shelving around our TV and entertainment stand. The main thing I need to work around is our big dark grey couch (measures 10.5ft x 9ft). I absolutely love this couch and don't want to get rid of it, but I realize the dark grey might be a pain to work with.
I've doodled a concept of what I'm planning and uploaded them to this post to try and help visualize what I'm going for. I've also uploaded a picture of my couch from the website and the decorations I want to reuse. Any opinions or pointers are appreciated, thank you in advance!
