This is the colour of the walls we are going with ( not our room fyi) in our living room.
I want a carpeted floor but no idea what colour to go.
I was gonna go for a dark shade of grey to contrast the light walls but then the sofa we was going to buy was also grey and I’m guessing not everything can be grey

There’s nothing wrong with going with a monochromatic color scheme. You just need to vary the saturation of color and/or add texture for interest.
I generally find an inspiration piece and develop a color scheme around that; whether that is a piece of art, a rug or something like that.
I would suggest not going all grey. There’s nothing wrong with it, but there’s nothing exciting about it either. It will set the mood and well, too much grey is too much grey.
I would actually consider copying the photo you’ve posted, but then going with a different colour couch. A warm camel, dark green, navy blue couch would go a long way towards adding some excitement and personality to the space.
Also, I would also consider not going the carpet route and adding in wood floors. Even faux wood floors wood be easier to care for, and last much longer in the long run. Then buy a large area rug if you want carpeting under foot.
You will probably get a good deal on gray carpet (and couch, honestly) because people have found it sad and depressing and few people want it anymore. I would consider warmer colors than gray. Gray on gray on gray is triple sad. Not beige, but there are many off-whites and creams that would be lovely. BUT before you choose paint, choose a carpet (preferably not gray) that you like first. Choose a paint the complements the carpet and couch in colors you love and don’t choose because you think they are safe. There are a millions shades of even the same color. If you choose carpet, then you have something to help you decide. Paint is a last choice and not a first choice in decorating.
I wouldn’t go all gray because it can start to feel cold and clinical really fast. That being said I have been loving pairing a gray element such a couch, area rug, etc with a lot of warm, rich tones like a teak coffee table and a patterned arm chair. There’s something so interesting about the juxtaposition to me. It helps me reframe gray into something that doesn’t always need to be paired with more gray and other cool tones like blue or purple.
