Hi all,

I’m thinking of changing our dining table because the current one takes up too much space in the living/dining area. I’m considering replacing it with either a rectangular or oval-shaped table, but I’m really unsure what would work best. We want to keep the chairs or at least 2 if we are going with a bench on one side.

I’m also stuck on colour/finish — should I go for a full black table, or something with black legs and a wooden top? I want it to match the rest of the interior in the living room so it looks cohesive rather than bulky or out of place.

Would love to hear what hear your thoughts on what do you think would look best!

Thanks in advance 🙂

Can you post a picture of the other side of the room? Like if you’re standing in the doorway and angled toward the other side? I agree that this feels crowded, but I feel like the glaring thing to me is that the grey accent chair looks huge. I’m wondering if that could be removed and everything pushed over away from the dining area to give it some room to breathe. Or do you have another space that you could do the dining table, and just put a small desk in its place? It looks like it’s being used for a workstation at the moment.

I bought a bench table for the first time ever in my life (I’m 66) , and I truly wish I’d done it years ago. I use two bench seats. For some reason it seems to make meal time more friendly 😊

The table is fine. Your living room furniture is too big for the space. You can’t really go smaller on a table unless you go with a 2 person cafe table. The roundness is helping you here because it’s easier to get around to the other seats. You need a smaller armchair and a loveseat. It’s a small room for both living and dining.
